Agile Tower Sustainable Design. Guangzhou. with SOM

Agile Corporation Headquarters is a 190-meter commercial tower located in Guangzhou’s new central business district. The elliptical tower is in the southwest corner of the site with an elevated pedestrian bridge running along its northern side, connecting it with adjacent towers. A combination of metal fins fritted glass and corrugated metal spandrel panels make up the three layers of the high perfromance façade. This façade system creates an optimal energy-saving curtainwall that responds to the solar condition of the existing environment. The pattern of the shading system is generated with coupled studies of radiation and energy modeling.

China World Trade Center. Facade. Beijing. with SOM

Being part of the Performative Design Group of SOM, we contributed to the China World Trade Center Tower (CWTC) performances. The building is now the centerpiece of Beijing’s Central Business District. It has an innovative approach to efficient structural engineering concepts and environmentally performing envelope where light, thermal gains are optimized. The LEED Gold registered project embodies a comprehensive energy and conservation strategy.

CASCINA MERLATA TOWER. SHADING SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION. EXPO VILLAGE Milan. WITH B22

The building is located in the Cascina Merlata area in Milan. Specific requirements have to be met in terms of energy efficiency, construction planning, costs control and dwellings flexibility: a specific apart-hotel layout has been designed in order to be easily remodeled at the end of Expo 2015 providing equipped housing units. Our consultancy has been mainly related to the facade optimization. A detailed energy simulation allowed to evaluate the best solution in term of energy needs. Furthermore, a daylight analysis was used to calibrate illumination levels and light distribution in the rooms.
